Patient story from Trinidad

Danielle Sobers was 16 years old and had a 160 degrees scoliosis. She received life saving surgery in 2008, by the FOCOS team, Dr Toby and Dr Arlet, to prevent her lungs being compressed by her spine. Her lungs were restricted and she struggled to breath and was frequently out of breath from basic activities.

The surgery lasted 6 hours and required the insertion of 2 Titanium rods and 2 days of intensive care following surgery. Danielle made a very quick recovery and grew 4 inches taller and returned home without a brace. She now enjoys dancing and is looking forward to the future.
